The For Mahalia’s 2021 live show at Brixton Academy, the largest and most ambitious performance of her career to date, LIBRARY PRODUCTIONS took on the full responsibility for production, stage management, and set build. The significance of this show, in such a renowned venue, required us to work meticulously to bring Mahalia’s show designers vision to life while ensuring that all logistical and technical elements were executed.

Our team began by closely collaborating with Mahalia’s creative director and management team to design a stage that would enhance her performance while reflecting her artistic identity. The set was tailored to fit the iconic Brixton Academy stage, with a focus on creating an intimate yet powerful experience for the audience. We managed the construction of the set, ensuring that all components met the technical specifications required for the performance and visual effects, while also complying with the venue’s regulations.

Supplier procurement played a critical role in the success of this production. We worked with trusted suppliers to source the best equipment, from sound and lighting rigs to bespoke stage elements. Ensuring high-quality production while adhering to budget constraints required strategic negotiation and strong relationships with vendors. LIBRARY PRODUCTIONS was responsible for overseeing every aspect of supplier coordination, from initial sourcing through to delivery, installation, and technical testing. This involved working with specialists in sound, lighting, rigging, and set design, ensuring that every detail contributed to a cohesive and professional production.

Budget management was another key aspect of our role. For a large-scale show like Mahalia’s at Brixton Academy, it was essential to balance creative ambition with financial responsibility. We worked closely with the artist’s team to allocate resources efficiently, prioritizing areas that would have the greatest impact on the audience’s experience. Our experience in managing complex budgets for high-profile events allowed us to maximise value without compromising on quality.

On the day of the show, the result was a highly successful, sold-out show that marked a milestone in Mahalia’s career.
